Next course begins Spring 2010.
This course is designed to train students in basic investigation techniques.
Topics:
- Identify sources of information including scenes, records, and files
- Document an investigation and interviews
- Best practices for using public records, documents, and interviews
- Identify methods used to link physical evidence, people, records, and files
Students in our Paralegal program can take this course as an elective substituting a specialty course from the program.
Upon successful completion of this course, a certificate from the Legal Studies Institue will be awarded.

JUDGE ISRAEL REYES is a Circuit Court Judge of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida and for Miami-Dade County.He was appointed to that position by Governor Jeb Bush on August 14, 2003. Prior to that, he was a County Court Judge having been appointed to that position by Governor Bush on March 26, 2002. While there, he served in the Criminal Division.
Before taking the bench, Judge Reyes was an Assistant State Attorney in the Office of the State Attorney, Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, Racketeering/Organized Crime Unit, Civil Forfeiture Section. He specialized in the litigation of civil forfeitures and concentrated on illegal drug money laundering cases.
From 1980 until 1995, Judge Reyes was a police officer/detective with the Metro-Dade Police Department where, at various times, he worked in the Media Relations Section, Special Investigations Division, Criminal Conspiracy and Racketeering Squads, Homicide, Organized Crime Bureau; Economic Crimes Unit/Credit Card Squad, Police Applicant Background Investigation Unit; Firearms Training Section, and Uniform Patrol. He learned numerous commendations and awards including the Employee Excellence Award.
Juge Reyes graduated from Nova Southeastern University with a Juris Doctorate. He was within the top 20% of his class. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice with high honors from FIU. |
